Win for opening a double-header week
02-02-2023
Real again was off to a good start in the first period: 15-2 first and 23-9 with a little more than 2 minutes to go. However, Panathinaikos was able to finish the first 10 minutes alive, 26-14.
The Greeks improved in the second quarter once Tavares was not on court (33-25, min 14). But it was a mirage: Real extended its lead back to the 12 points quickly, and 5 consecutive points from Rudy enlarged the gap to the 17 points (42-25). Grigonis cut the bleeding off thanks to a three, and both teams reached halftime (48-30).
It was a back and forth affair in the third period, Panathinaikos trying to trim Real's advantage, but with 2:30 left for the end of the third quarter, Real Madrid lead still by 19 points, 66-47. PAO was then able to connect some good plays from Bacon and Grigonis finishing only 11 points behind the Whites, 68-57.
Real's efforts turned to the defense again and the visitors seemed to lack the energy for coming back in the fourth period. An alley-oop between Llull and Hezonja was the momentum in which Real broke the game (76-61) and the Whites cruised until the end of the contest. New win, 83-68.
