Real opens the season with a road win

The season opener was a challenge for Real Madrid, visiting Girona's Fontajau on the host ACB debut.
Marc Gasol opened the scoreboard as the locals dominated a stunned Real (20-8) during most of the 1st period. But a good run from the Whites got them back on track with three consecutive three pointers (20-17, min 10).
Hezonja made his appearance then: 2 consecutive threes for Real's first lead in the game and 15 points in the second period that finished with a 16-28 run and a 9 point gap for the visitors by halftime, 36-45.
Taylor was Girona's most inspired player during the third quarter as Real Madrid kept adding threes, until a 9-0 run for Girona got the locals' on Real's back (49-51). But a new run for Real Madrid again lead by Mario Hezonja sent the game to the final act with a new maximum advantage for the Whites (57-69, min 30).
A combative Girona came back during the last quarter (72-76, min 36) again thanks to Taylor, but Real was able to cool the game down again thanks to the threes and took the season opener in front of a great crowd.
Real's best player was Hezonja (23 points, 26 PIR) as Girona's leader was Marc Gasol (21 points, 34 PIR). Real Madrid had a great night from the perimeter with 18 three pointers out of 32 attempts.
