Real lifts its fifth consecutive Super Copa
Real Madrid won the Super Copa in Sevilla on the first season's Clasico in front of FC Barcelona. Tavares had an outstanding game, supported by Deck, Musa and Llull.

Real got the first run (17-15), despite a great Sanli (11 points in the first 10 minutes). Real was not accurate in scoring but the Whites' offensive rebounding was great (8 in the first quarter) and they took advantage of some second options.

Barça's tighter defense allowed them to record a 0-6 run kicking off the second quarter (17-21, min 14), leading by as many as 10 points (27-37, min 19) thanks to a lost Real Madrid. Nevertheless Chus Mateo's squad found their ground and both teams got the locker room with a 29-37 score for Barça.

Coming off the locker room FC Barcelona extended its momentum for a 12 point max advantage, but Musa, Tavares and a new miracle from Sergio Llull (3 consecutive threes!) turned the tables as Real lead at the end of the third period, 55-49.

Another three, this time from Rudy, gave Real a new maximum gap at the scoreboard (58-51, min 32) but FC Barcelona managed to get back on their feet (58-59 min 33). There was an exchange of baskets during the following minutes until Tavares, with 50 seconds left, scored 2 free throws (71-69), and Mike Tobey dunked for a tied score (71-71) after an assist from Laprovittola (14 assists, tournament high). Deck was not able to score a long three and the game went to the extra time.

The over time's principal actor was Edy Tavares (tournament high 40 PIR, 24 points, 12 rebounds, 5 blocks), with 2 pivotal blocks in the last 5 minutes, one of them with 30 seconds left on Barça's center Sanli with 85-83 at the scoreboard. It was the coup de grace for FC Barcelona as Real took the game and the trophy, 89-83.

Ninth Super Copa for Real Madrid, fifth consecutive, for a strong launch of a new season.
