Real improves to 12-1 after a double victory trip to Greece
08-12-2023
Real Madrid got back from Greece with two new victories on two very different games.
At the Peace and Friendship Arena, the locals and the Whites duplicated last season's championship game, in which, despite Real being always in control, Olympiacos always kept some chances to the game.
Real Madrid's defense was pivotal at the end of the game as the visitors reduced the host toe only 3 points scored in the last 5 minutes of the game. Llull closed the scoreboard for good with 2 free throwa that sealed valuable win for Chus Mateo's men, 71-77.
The second game of the trip was pretty different. The locals were much more inspired in the first half of the game, lead by an explosive Mathias Lessort, while Real's defense proved too weak.
A 14-0 run for Panathinaikos got them the lead in the second quarter turning from a Real's advantage of 9 points (26-35) to a 5 point local lead (40-35, min 17). But Chus Mateo's squad responded thanks to Hezonja and Campazzo as Real lead by 1 point by halftime, 45-46.
Panathinaikos hit first coming off the locker room but Real proved to be in very good shape reacting with a demolishing 1-22 run that got them 18 points ahead (52-70, min 29).
The Whites were thus virtually sealing the victory as the exchange of baskets between both teams in the last 10 minutes would not give chances to the locals for beating the visitors.
Second win for Real (78-90) on the Greek European 'doubleheader' of the week.
