Real got to the Copa del Rey final in Granada after defeating Breogan on Thursday (73-67), on a rough game, and beating Lenovo Tenerife in the semi finals (94-74) where the Whites dominated from beginning to end.
Laso's men, very focused and prepared mentally had a great start of the Final, facing a stunned FC Barcelona that had possibly its worse first quarter result of the season, 19-5. Jasikevicius' squad had to row from then on, and took the second quarter's run (10-13). Real's offense was not very accurate but the defense was again very effective and the Whites kept a very good advantage at halfitme, 29-18.
But FC Barcelona kept improving, thanks to a better Mirotic who scored 11 points in the third period, and the blaugrana squad faced the last 10 minutes only 5 points behind, 46-41. It was a new game as both teams' dynamics were pretty much opposite and FC Barcelona had won 2nd and 3rd quarters' scores.
Real had a hard time scoring yet, both team's defenses were tight and intense, and a basket from Calathes with 7 minutes left overturned the score, 46-48. Hanga rescued Real, but a great Jokubaitis scored 5 consecutive points for Barcelona. As the game approached crunch time, once more appeared Sergio Llull scoring 4 consecutive points tying the score, 59-59, with only 45 seconds to go.
Mirotic scored two free throws next, but Deck missed a layup for Real, and FC Barcelona sealed the final win from the free throw line, 59-64.
