A good first half leads to a new victory
Sergio Llull and Rudy Fernández provided depth to Laso's squad yesterday, while a great defense from the locals and a consistent duo Deck-Taylor in offense during the first quarter saw Madrid's lead in these first 10 minutes jump to 13 points (25-12).

The second quarter was again a display of choral game: Causeur, Alocén, Thompkins, Tyus, plus Llull and Rudy. Panathinaikos was not able to keep up with the locals game and the run was once again clearly for the Whites: 24-15 for a 49-27 score by halftime.

It was expected to see a better Panathinaikos in the third quarter: Nedovic and Auguste led the Greeks who managed to draw the difference below the 10 points barrier (58-49, min. 29); still again Deck was key for Real with three baskets in the scarce two minutes left, and Real Madrid was leading 64-50 at the end of the third period.

Panathinaikos did not give up and a great defense during the first minutes of the period had the locals struggling in offense: a three from Foster with 5 minutes left got the visitors only 5 points off Real, 66-61. But Abalde with a three, and 5 consecutive points from Llull, always ready on crunch time, got Laso's men to the end of the game with a 76-66 score.
